Week 1 Archive

The Times They Are A-Changin'...It isn't likely Bob Dylan was referring to the Post Pattern when he wrote his ballad, but it applies none-the-less. Back when the original Post Pattern was in full production, the effort was almost Herculean in nature. Various writers contributed hand-written content, which as rumor has it, some originals remain to this day (stay tuned!). Then a number of helpers would attempt to interpret these chicken scratchings and translate to paper with...get this...an actual type writer.

Once the articles were written, the editor and his staff would take the individual pieces of paper down to a local establishment where they would paste in graphics and funny comments.  Kids...when I say paste, I mean literal paste.  We're not talking about "cut and paste" on a computer.  The staff would literally glue a picture to the piece of paper and then make a photocopy.

With the newsletter now complete, our staff moved on to distribution.   Each newsletter was hand delivered and for many readers was a highlight of their week!

While our process may be different, our goal is to stay true to the heart of the original Post Pattern...good-hearted stories, optimistic Packer news (some of us more so than others), updates on great grand kids athletic pursuits, and maybe a few other surprises.

Our Coach is HOT

When it comes to engaging in that age old tradition of talking Packer football, rarely does everyone agree.  Which QB is the greatest Packer? Would Lombardi's Packers of the '60s defeat the '96 or 2010 team?  Is it appropriate to do the "Wave" in Lambeau Field?

On one topic though, I think we can all find agreement. Both men and women, married couples and singles, young and old alike....we should all be able to come to the same conclusion.  Green Bay Heach Coach Matt LaFleur is hot.

Since coming to Green Bay in January of 2019 Matt LaFleur has lead Green Bay to three straight 13 win seasons. Coach has put together an attractive record of 39-10 and once he takes the field in Week 1 he will become the NFL's all time leader in winning percentage (minimum 50 games). While expectations in Titletown are always the highest, it's important to remember where this franchise was just a few short years ago.  After ugly back to back sub-500 seasons, Mark Murphy replaced Mike McCarthy with the previously unknown LaFleur.  While some fans were initially skeptical, we should credit most of the Buboltz women for seeing something in LaFleur that lead to their excitement in Green Bay's future.

That excitement was quickly justified as LaFleur's offensive strategy looked gorgeous. He built game plans that were very easy on the eye. Receivers were now running wide-open down the field. Lineman opened  better lanes for his running backs. In 2018, McCarthy's homely offense put up 23.5 points per game (14th in the league), Two short years later Packers fans hearts were racing as Matt LaFleur lead a rejuvenated offense to a sexy 31.5 per game, tops in the league.

Good looking playbooks and impressive stats are all fine and dandy.  However, heading into the 2022 season with a much improved defense, many Packers fans think this years team has a chance to go all the way and bring the Lombardi trophy back to Titletown. Perhaps it's fitting this year's Super Bowl will be in Glendale, Arizona which at the time this article was posted was currently 108 degrees.  Now THAT's hot.
