Winter Sports Kickoff
With our fall season finally in the books, the Buboltz kids trade spikes for indoor shoes as we enter the winter session. Starting in Brillion, we tip-off with a debut to announce.
Griffin Keller, the 9 year old 3rd grader from Forest Junction is the latest in a long line of Buboltz kids to take the court wearing the yellow and blue of the Trinity Trotters Tigers. Keller, who rocks the #52 on the hardwood, made his debut on Saturday at Trinity. With his father handling the scoring clock, Griffin used his speed to play some suffocating defense. In their first game of the year, the Fighting Kellers of Trinity landed a 22-1 victory.
Staying with our youngest generation, we head to Minnesota for some basketball action. Jack Wilma has taken to the court this season coached by father John. The athletic Wilma has proven to be a stuffer of the stat sheet. In his most recent game yesterday, Jack went for 5 points and 7 rebounds.
In Appleton, the Vanderhoof twins are picking up right where they left off. After a very successful volleyball season, Alyssa and Natalie have started off the basketball season with a bang. In their first tournament of the year for the Mount Olive Mustangs, the girls took home the championship. In their first game (a 43-16 victory), Natalie had 2 steals and Alyssa had 2 points / 3 rebounds. In the 4 tournament games, the pair combined for 8 steals. Natalie scored in every game and Alyssa played great defense.
This past weekend, playing for the FVL Junior Foxes, Natalie helped her team to a 2nd place showing. In the title game, she had 5 points including a big 3 point play.
Keeping the theme of dominating women's basketball going, Grace Vanderhoof is a part of a dominating force. Kettle Moraine Lutheran is a force to reckon with. While the varsity team is ranked 2nd in the state, the JV team is equally impressive. While unbeaten on the season, Grace's team is averaging a margin of victory of over 33 points per game. In their last contest, Grace added 5 points to the margin as they won 68-7.
Way to go Grace!
As we've seen a few times in our column, injuries are a part of the game. While playing some stout defense last weekend, Hannah injured her wrist after making a hard landing. As most true competitors would be, Hannah is "over" this injury and ready to get back to the court ASAP. In the meantime, she's been cheering on her teams.
Here's to a speedy recovery Hannah!
Closing out our column this week, we end with an update from the world of gymnastics. With the competitive season just a few weeks away, Gwen has been hard at work perfecting her routines for the season. In Level 9, the routines are more complex, more difficult, and more exciting to watch. Good luck on your upcoming season Gwen!
