December Update
While we're well into the winter sports season, we have a few loose ends to tie up from the end of the fall campaign.
We start where we left things off last issue, with the conclusion of Blake Vanderhoof's high school football career. At FVL's end of season football banquet, Blake was awarded the team's Heart of Service award. In a quote from his father, 'It's hard to put into words how proud I am of this young man". Well done Blake!
Staying with the theme of senior season endings, Jack Simmons wrapped up his high school cross country career at the D1 XC sectional held in Madison. Jack and his teammates ran a good race and battled to a respectable finish. At their end of season banquet, Coach Ausen closed with this "There was no quit in Jack...I'll miss seeing your hoodie and aviators on those 82 degree days. You're a gifted young man, a gifted young runner...my man, you've got a lot of talent".
Senior Ella Kuchenbcker, seen here staring down some poor volleyball before unleashing an ace, closed out her career in VB earlier this fall. Ella's team went undefeated at home on their way to a 22-11 record and a 5th place finish in conference. Ella finished 2nd on the team in kills and hitting percentage. Her efforts earned her Honorable Mention in the EWC.
Natalie Vanderhoof has made the transition from volleyball to basketball and has made the FVL JV1 team. After a rough first game vs Seymour, FVL bounced back against Oconto Falls in a great game to watch that saw plenty of lead changes. Natalie played in 25 of the 32 minutes and while her shot wasn't falling early, she stuffed the stat sheet nonetheless. She ended the evening with 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals, and 4 points. Her last bucket was an important one as she scored wiht her left hand to take a 3 point lead with only 10 seconds left. FVL won that game 48-45.
In her most recent action, Natalie's work down low help propel the Lady Foxes to a 39-24 win. Natalie grabbed 12 rebounds in the contest.
We don't have a picture yet of Alyssa, but we'e been told she has changed her focus to art and has tried out for the school musical. She was one of four freshman to make it and will be performing Tarzan the Musical in March. Good luck!
Hannah Vanderhoof has also made the switch from volleyball to basketball. The Lakeside Lutheran Warriors JV2 team is off to a strong start, sporting a 4-1 record as of earlier last week. Hannah starts on the wing, and is averaging 8.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2.6 assists per game. That's what we call versatile!
Noelle Vanderhoof has kept her schedule full all year, and the winter is no different. The Lakeside dance team has competed in a number of events so far and Team Captain Noelle has them in lock step. The team was in Ashwaubenon this weekend (as we went to print we didn't have the results).
Jack Wilma has also joined his cousins on the hardcourt. Jack and his buddies has the chance to get in a scrimmage at the Target Center recently on the same court that the Timberwolves play on. This season Wilma has stepped up his play and is more aggressive. He's getting more rebounds and his finding his shot as he's had several nice buckets so far.
