Buboltz Kids Sports Roundup
2024 Season Kick Off
Everyone's favorite sports column is back for our 3rd season! Due to staff limitations, we weren't able to publish a spring summary so our first issue this fall with include a "cleanup" on the spring/summer seasons in addition to a look forward to the fall.
Beginning at the center of the Buboltz sports world, the Buboltz crew in Brillion has been hard at work over the past several months honing their crafts. Team Keller spent a lot of time at the ballpark and were treated to some amazing performances.
Griffin Keller (Class of 2033) played on two different teams and brought home a silver trophy for his efforts. This multi-threat player hit .429 on the season with a .619 OBP and was 2nd on his team with 6 RBIs. As shown in the picture, Griffin rocks a pitcher's pose with the best of them!
Delaney Keller put her offseason training to work as she also excelled on the ball diamond. Ms. Keller (Class of 2035) helped her team to a 12-3 record (Division Champs) and placed 4th in their end of season tourney. Delaney batted .604 and was 2nd on the team with 19 RBIs. Clearly a coach’s kid, she struck out the third fewest times on the team. Delaney is coached by Coach Keller and sister Ella.
Staying with baseball in Brillion, the Horn kids were also busy with activity. Starting in tee-ball, Willis Horn began his career at pitcher (yes, you read that correctly), before quickly moving to first base. Will’s team finished at 0-0-5. No reports on how the trophy situation is handled in a league that doesn’t keep score.
Molly Horn’s exploits this summer were on the stage, starring as the most adorable Oompa Loompa this side of the chocolate factory. Molly will have the opportunity to team up with cousin Griffin on the soccer pitch this fall. Early reports from camp reveal that their team “will be really good this year…but it is a LOT of running!”
Jumping over to Viking country, Jack Wilma had a great baseball season. It was his first year of travel ball, and the Minnesota Masher led his team in doubles, triples, and chain swag. He was awarded the Silver Slugger by his coaches and split time between second base and left field.
Switching gears from the ball diamond to the gridiron, Jack will be kicking off his first season of tackle football (much to the thrill of his grandfather). He participated in his first "mini-combine" and has been working very hard at practice for Shakopee's first game this Saturday.
Staying in MN, Micah Vanderhoof is back for his sophomore season at MLC where he will once again be competing for the men's cross country team. In the spring, Micah has a member of the 1st place 4x800m relay team at their conference track meet.
Recently, Micah's image was spotted in the MLC weight room. While terms haven't been publicly released yet, it's been rumored to be the largest NIL deal in Buboltz family history.
In Appleton, the FVL Foxes are getting contributions from three Vanderhoofs this year.
Natalie Vanderhoof has started her high school career by earning a spot on the Foxes JV volleyball team. The all-around athlete has been playing both front and back row for the Lady Foxes. The video is from a recent scrimmage.
Following in her father's footsteps, Alyssa Vanderhoof is competing on the courts as a member of the Lady Foxes JV tennis squad. Alyssa had her first doublles match this week. She and her partner were able to a win a couple of games in their one set match.
Blake Vanderhoof, now a senior at FVL, enters his final year of high school football as a defensive tackle and right guard for the Foxes. Blake's hardwork in the offseason paid off in FVL's first game of the season where he was able to get into the backfield on a nice tackle behind the line of scrimmage. Blake has seen playing time on both sides of the ball early in the season. The Foxes take on cross-town rival Xavier in the Apple Bowl this Friday.
Joining her cousin in college athletics, Madelyn Vanderhoof is also starting her sophomore year in college, Madelyn’s freshman track season at WLC included competing in the 55m, 60m, 200m, 4x400m relay, and High Jump for the indoor season. In outdoor, she was in the 100, 200, 4x100 and High Jump.
Noelle Vanderhoof has kept her schedule packed with a littany of events. In the spring she was the lead (Gabriella) in Lakeside’s production of High School Musical. She was also a dance lead in the Janesville Community Theater’s production of Mean Girls. This fall, she is a captain for the LLHS Dance Team and has been seen signing the national anthem before a number of events.
Hannah Vanderhoof also kept busy the past few months. She wrapped up her grade school career while running track at TSL this spring. She competed in the 100, 200, 4x100, 4x200, and Long Jump. Hannah qualified for the WI LSA middle school state track meet in the 100, 200, 4x100, and Long Jump. Her relay team took 4th out of 29 teams.
Joining Coach Vanderhoof at Lakeside every day, Hannah made the JV1 roster at LLHS this fall and has had a strong start to her season.
Also at Lakeside, Jack Simmons had a strong season in Track. He was a member of the 1st team all conference winning 4x800m relay and also smashed his PR in the mile with a time of 4:47 to take 5th place in a loaded regional.
While his season ended there, Coach Vanderhoof went on to help guide the Warriors to their second consecutive State Championship in Division 2. The team dominated the competition in the state meet scoring a record amount of points in D2. As a result, Coach V was awarded the Wisconsin Coach of the Year by the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Now entering his senior year at Lakeside, Jack will be one of the leaders on a Cross Country squad who has been bumped up to Division 1 due to their success in prior years. Their season kicks off Thursday, September 5th with a large invitational at Cam-Rock.
Wrapping up our Sports Roundup, Gwen also wrapped up her gymnastics career earlier this year. After sustaining an injury during practice, Gwen made a business decision to focus her efforts on academics to prepare for her future. It's yet to be determined if we'll see her in further athletic competition, but don't rule out the possibility we may see her put her aerial skills to use in track and field.
As always...keep your stories, pictures, and videos coming in. The fall of '24 should be another exciting time for the Buboltz crew!
