Fall Sports update (10/8)
As noted in our last kids edition update, the Buboltz crew has plenty of options if you're interested in watching some sports this fall.
Kicking things off this week in Appleton, the Fighting Vanderhoofs (otherwise known at the FVL Foxes) have enjoyed a tremendous season. The JV1 team continued their unbeaten streak in a 31-8 win over Wrightstown last week. According to our Foxes insider, Blake looked good in the trenches, especially on the offensive side of the ball.
Apparently the Appleton Vanderhoofs don't plan on losing this season. Twins Natalie and Alyssa have enjoyed a fantastic season as they went undefeated in their conference schedule. The team has 1 non-conference game, and 2 tournaments remaining in their season.
The Lady Lions of Brillion have been gathering momentum as they near the start of the post season. Currently in 4th place in conference, Ella Kuchenbecker and her cohorts have been playing well as of late. Last weekend, the Lions went 2-1 in pool play and then won the championship match. In the title game, Ella notched her 100th kill of the season. The girls then posed with Griffin and sang "Happy Birthday" to him.
On the year, Ella is tied for first in sets played and 2nd in kills. She has 26 service aces on the season, to go along with 66 digs and 6 blocks.
We keep things rolling in volleyball as Hannah's team has continued to have a fantastic year. Recently her team knocked off Peace Lutheran in Sun Praire (Hannah is pictured while blocking a shot). Her team has one remaining VB tournament.
In other news, Hannah tried out for the River City VB club and was offered a spot on their #1 team.
Keeping it in the Watertown Vanderhoof family, it was Homecoming Week at Lakeside Lutheran High School. During the school's Talent Show, Noelle took center stage as she performed a number of songs while entertaining the LLHS students and staff. Noelle and her squad also marched in the Lakeside parade (she can be seen around the 6:59 mark).
Staying at Lakeside, Jack and the Warriors Boys Cross Country team has had a strong past few weeks of competition. Under the Friday night lights, the team took on the #1, #4, and #8 ranked teams in the state at the Lake Mills golf course. The Warriors beat all three teams in a tightly contested race to earn the #1 ranking in Division 2 in this weeks coaches poll. For his part, Jack has battled through multiple sicknesses and an ill timed growth spurt while still lowering his times as the season goes on. The team travels to Belleville next week for the Conference Championship and then will be in Monroe the following week for Sectionals.
In the college ranks, Freshman Micah Vanderhoof has been adjusting to the increased mileage and lowering his times over the course of the season. Most recently, Micah competed with the MLC Knights in Eau Claire. Micah turned in a strong performance with a time of 34:04 over the 8k distance (about 5 miles). In training last week, Micah turned in a 13 mile prep. In other words, the aspiring music teacher ran a HALF MARATHON FOR PRACTICE last week! Mad respect to you sir.
Staying in the state of Minnesota, Jack Wilma wants to make sure no one has forgotten about him. Playing for the Shakopee Bengals, this young up and comer has shown skill on the ground and in the air. Jack has spent time at QB, RD, and WR on offense. In mid September, Jack rushed for a 25 yard TD. The following week he threw for a TD as QB. He has caught multiple TDs / conversions. This past weekend with Grandpa Rick and Grandma Dawn in attendance he nearly had an interception on defense as well.
