Fall Sports Update

Fall is in full swing for our cohort of cousinly competitors and we're thrilled to provide a few updates on the crew.  We start this week with someone who is starting his career on the gridiron.

As reported here earlier, Jack Wilma traded in his flags for football pads and the early returns are glowing.  With a raucous cheering section firmly in his corner, Wilma saw his first action recently and brought the crowd to their feet early on.  Wilma received his first carry on a sweep around the left end. Jack used a burst of speed (clearly inherited from his grandfather) to get around the edge,. He then pulled from his grand father and great uncle's dance moves to juke a defender and continue downfield. The Skakopee Sabers are clearly headed for good things this season!

Down the road in New Ulm, Micah Vanderhoof now has a couple of XC races under his belt on the season. Micah runs joins a full stable of runners and more than holds his own at the 8k distance. Recently in Platteville, Micah was cheered on by friends and family back in his homestate and put up a strong effort. Rumor has it, the fabled "Pistachio Bread" tradition has found it's way from Lakeside Lutheran to MLC this year (seriously, if you haven't tried the Ertman family's recipe you're missing out!)

The Fox Valley Lutheran football team started off 2-0 with a powerful offense. After posting 86 points in their first two contests, FVL has now dropped two consecutive games by a single point each. In an overtime loss to an undefeated Freedom team, FVL put up 42 points. With an offense that explosive, The Post Pattern is confident Blake Vanderhoof's squad will find more success this season.

Alyssa Vanderhoof continues her growth on the tennis court. She has been steadily moving up the ranks and was sitting in the 6th spot for her JV team.  Alyssa and her partner won 4 games in a set vs a New London opponent and according to coach Dad has been improving every game. This past Thursday she and her partner took home the win to beat Oshkosh Lourdes.  Congrats Alyssa!

Sister Natalie has also been busy as well. She has continued to move around playing different positions on the volleyball court.  Showing her worth to the team, Natalie had a really nice kill in competition last week, as her team won matches vs Denmark and Wrightstown. After dropping a contest to Xavier, the team bounced back and knocked off Little Chute bringing their record to 3-1 on the season.  Coach Dad approved of Natalie's effort from the stands and noted she played well.

Hannah Vanderhoof has been off to a strong start in her volleyball career at Lakeside. Her team is off to a 7-1 start on the season, including making it to the gold bracket in both of her tournaments.  From the looks of it, defenders might think twice about trying to stop one of her spikes (or serves!)

Lakeside Lutheran boys XC team, the defending WIAA Boys Division 2 State Champs, kicked off their season a few weeks ago with a warm-up race in Milwaukee. Since then they've competed at Cam-Roc, Monona Grove, and UW-Parkside. The team looks quite a bit different from last year, with 4 of their 5 scorers from the championship race having graduated. Jack Simmons has consistenly been the 3rd runner on the team, and got off to a good start in the first few races. Jack set a PR of 17:45 in his first race of the year and has visions of shaving more time as the year progresses.
