Buboltz Sports Roundup
As the calendar approaches October, the fall sports season for the Buboltz clan is in full swing. Our sports reporters have travelled across the state to get the latest news on our crew of competitive cousins as they compete on the court, country, and coliseum (football field doesn't work with that alliteration).
In football, both of our coaches are enjoying some success on the gridiron. In Lake Mills, Coach Vanderhoof's varsity team has scorched their opposition by posting 50+ points in three straight games on the way to a 5-1 record (3-1 in conference). Justin's JV team has a chance to even it's record with an upcoming contest on 9/27. In a new development for the 2022 season, the varsity team is being supported by the return of the Cheering and Poms team (previously on hiatus) which includes none other than the talented Noelle Vanderhoof. No word from Coach yet on the distraction this may cause his team.
In Brillion, as the Post Pattern predicted, the Lions have started to turn their season around as they've now won two straight games including last week in a defensive struggle against New Holstein where they came out on top 6-0. Coach Keller's JV team has also shown some punch as the offense has been scoring in bunches of late.
Football is unfortunately a game of injuries and the Buboltz crew wasn't spared this year. Blake Vanderhoof's season ended prematurely due to a broken hand suffered in a tackling drill recently (you should see the other guy). We wish Blake a speedy recovery!
As mentioned in our last article, the Buboltz clan has a wealth of talent on the volleyball court and that is proving true on the scoreboard this year. Starting in Brillion, the Lady Lions varsity team is sitting at 12-8 overall and 2-2 in conference which is good for 3rd place in the EWC. The only sophomore on the team, Ella Kuchenbecker has turned in solid performances in relief of a college bound Middle Hitter. Ella is fourth on the team in hitting percentage and has 26 kills/11 blocks. Big sister Lauren, who regularly sits next to Ella on the bench as coach, is also seeing success leading the freshman team and providing insight to her sister during matches.
It is important to note, the editor regretfully left out two important contributors to the Mount Olive girls volleyball team. Sisters Natalie and Alyssa Vanderhoof have helped their team to an undefeated season so far as they've won all 4 matches 2-1.
Continuing the theme of success, the Watertown Vanderhoofs have seen their fair share as well. In a recent tournament, the A2 team coached by Madelyn which includes Hannah on the floor recovered from a disappointing pool play showing to take 1st place in the tournament. Their win was especially notable considering they had no substitutes! Word on the street is that Hannah slept very well that evening. Not to be outdone by her daughters, Emily coached her girls team to a 1st place showing at a recent tourney in Sun Prairie as well!
In Menomonee Falls, Grace Vanderhoof's high school career has started with a bang. After an early season 2nd place tourney finish, Grace's team had a memorable weekend 9/17-9/18. Kettle Moraine's team swept their pool play and in the championship match they lost their first game. In an interview with the Post Pattern's beat reporter, Grace let us know that she was nervous they might lose, but they buckled down and took the next set. In the third game they won a nail biter as Vanderhoof played a tenacious backrow/libero role and recorded multiple digs to help lead her team to victory.
On the same day Grace was enjoying her win, history was made in Buboltz sports. Micah Vanderhoof and Jack Simmons became the first Buboltz's to compete head to head at the varsity level when they battled at UW Parkside with friends and family in attendance. For a deep dive on this historic competition, check out our feature story.
Checking in with our youngsters, it's quite possible the future is already here. Young Jack Wilma displayed some speed on his way to an 80 yard touchdown in recent flag football action. While we don't have video of his run, we're told this is a picture of Jack running off the field after his score. There is no truth to the rumor his grandfather beat him to the endzone but stay tuned as that may happen at some point.
Please keep sending your stats, stories, and pictures our way so we can provide updates as the season progresses. If anyone has ideas they'd like to contribute we'd love to include them!
