Thanksgiving Edition
This episode of the Post Pattern serves as our Thanksgiving publication and even though the Pack is continuing to struggle this season Packer Nation has plenty to be thankful for. In a few short days the Buboltz crew will be breaking bread at Casa de Keller and enjoy each other's company.
For this week's trip to "The Vault" , we are treated to the 5th edition of the 1979 Post Pattern. The 5th edition displayed the most content to that time, with a multitude of articles. An appreciation for the Post Pattern's "guest pickers", a mention of John Madden's first Packers broadcast, and Hoofer's continued cheerleader observations are the first few treats. Grandpa's good friend Bob Reinke provides some perspective on quaterbacking in 1979's NFL, and we also hear from beloved Aunt Marvis, who offers some commentary on Bart Starr the coach. Mundo offers up his own trip to the past when he remembers a particularly snowy game from 1948 and we close out with a letter to the editor from Floyd R Turbo.
Our sports fans has something to be thankful for this year! As the fall sports season has concluded in high school, the Buboltz clan has added some more hardware to the trophy shelf. Click here to read all about it!
Steve Simmons Takes Control
Thanks to a combined record of 25-5 over Weeks 8-9, Steve Simmons has solidified his grasp on the top spot through 10 weeks. Steve has a 5 pick lead over Tracy Buboltz who is our leader in the Packer Nation division. Tracy's lead is a slim one pick over Sadie Dubs and Jason Keller in their division. Blake Vanderhoof and Jack Wilma are tied for the lead in the Juniors division (6 picks behind Steve), while Nick leads the New Impeccables division by 4 picks over Casey.
Young Packers Continue to Struggle
Not much has changed with the state of Packer football over the past few weeks. The team, now standing at 3-6, hasnt been able to find consistent success in what has become a rebuilding year. The trade of popular defensive back Rasul Douglas was disheartening to most fans but is understandable given his age, contract, and the reality of a team that isn't contending this season. The Packers DID manage to pick up a comfortable win vs the Matt Stafford-less Rams, but promptly gave that momentum right back with a loss to the offensively limited Pittsburgh Steelers. In a game that is likely most remembered for a missed backwards pass call that could have changed the outcome, the Packers managed to move the ball but couldn't overcome yet another first half deficit.
Thoughts from the game:
Jaylen Reed had his best day as a professional (5 catches for 84 yards and a TD)
Zach Tom had the best outing vs TJ Watt of any OL this season
Stop me when you've heard this...the Packers can't stop the run (Steelers ran for 205 yards)
You make the call...should GB have tried moving the ball at the end of the first half?
Post Pattern Tailgate a Big Success!
On Sunday, November 5th, a number of Al's Pals got together to resurrect the Post Pattern tailgates of years gone by. With Uncle Rick running the show, the group had a great time. It seemed fitting that this day was the Packers "Salute to Service" day. Tribute was paid to Gramps with everyone taking a shot of Maker's before we went it to the stadium. While we didn't do the $1 number pool (may need to find a new age replacement for this), we enjoyed seeing the Packers thump the Rams 20-3. At halftime, a number of veterans were honored at the 50 yard line for their service, including a very special person. Rolland Briar, a 102 year old vet, is one of the few remaining Pearl Harbor survivors. Mr. Briar served on the USS Whitney and was onboard during the attack. Ironically, he is the grandfather of our editor's college roommate!
Hopefully next week we can get the whole crew!
Letters to the Editor
This column is about as successful as Wile E. Coyote chasing the roadrunner. However, we are contractually obligated to continue running this feature so you still have a chance to share your observations, anecdotes, or other shenanigans as you see fit. If you're looking for inspiration, please see this week's Vault where "Floyd R Turbo" shared his thoughts in a Letter to the Editor special.
