Spring Kickoff
While it may not seem like it based on the recent weather, it IS indeed the spring season which means the Buboltz kids are back at it which means plenty of basketball, volleyball, track, gymnastics, and theater!
At Kettle Moraine, the Vanderhoof kids are already hard at it as Grace will be starting her track career at KML as Micah wraps his career up.
The Watertown Vanderhoofs have been busy in a multitude of ways. Madelyn is embarking on her senior year of track (coached by father Justin). Hannah doesn't know the meaning of the word "rest" and went right from her grade school sporting career into the club season while seeing success in both volleyball and basketball. Not to be outdone by the athletes in the family, Noelle has been busy cheering on the Lakeside Lutheran boys basketball team on their journey to the WIAA D3 state basketball semifinals (more an that story later) as well as preparing for Lakeside's upcoming musical.
Moving west to Windsor, Gwen concluded her competitive gymnastics season (in the middle of a snowstorm) at the Wisconsin Level 8 Gymnastics Championship. After a season that took her to Dallas, Minneapolis, and Chicago, she was able to hit the podium after a beautiful floor routine at the state meet. We've included a video from earlier in the season of her beam routine at the Dairy Aire competition in Madison. Brother Jack will be running long distance for the Lakeside track team as a warm up to the cross country season next fall.
Heading north to Brillion the Keller kids will also be competing this spring. Ella will return to the ball diamond to play varsity softball for the Lady Lions splitting time between 1st base and catcher Making her debut on the Buboltz Kids sports page, Laney Keller will be following in her sisters footsteps while she plays softball as well. She has some big shoes to fill as her sister Lauren has her name all over the record book in Brillion. While her escapades happened prior to the Post Pattern reboot, we wanted to take a minute to recognize Lauren's accomplishments in the sport. As a sophomore, Lauren tallied a record 13 RBIs on April 9th, 2018 in a win vs Kiel. Lauren concluded her career with a .366 batting average to go along with 53 career RBIs and was credited with 6 wins in 45 innings of work as a pitcher.
Finally, the Post Pattern staff was in attendance for a special March Madness event at the Kohl Center in Madison. There we were treated to a contest in the Wisconsin D3 Boys Basketball state semi-final between Lakeside Lutheran and Brillion. With cousins in the student section on both sides, the Brillion Lions pulled out a thrilling 57-55 victory. With multiple athletes headed to play college ball, the game was packed with star power and big moments. As a Brillion alum and parent to a Lakeside student, our editor was a bit conflicted as to who he should support...so naturally he bought a ticket in both sections.
In the first half, while sitting in the Lakeside section, our editor was informed by Justin Vanderhoof that some of the calls were a bit questionable. After moving to the Brillion section at halftime the editor was promptly informed by Jason Keller that the calls were also questionable but for a different reason. In this sports fan's humble opinion I suppose that means the refs must have gotten it right!
After that victory, Brillion advanced to the championship game where they prevailed against a previously undefeated West Salem team to take home their 2nd gold ball in basketball. Congrats to Coach Chad Shimek and the Brillion Lions on a wonderful season!
