Buboltz Sports Roundup

The leaves are turning colors, the temps are starting to drop, and we've already had our first snowfall (at least in Madison).  That can only mean one thing...it's playoff time for the Buboltz kids!  In this edition of The Post Pattern we'll get an update from across the state as we head into the post season in many sports.

Starting in football, as we mentioned last article, Blake Vanderhoof's season was ended early due to a broken arm in practice.  However, the Fox Valley Lutheran Foxes varsity team qualified as a #5 seed in Division 3 and take on Luxemburg-Casco this Friday.

In Brillion, the Lions squeaked into the Division 5 playoffs and have an opportunity to knock off the #1 ranked Southern Door Eagles this Friday.

In Lake Mills, the Lakeside Lutheran Warriors earned a #4 seed and for the 2nd year in a row will have a rematch with a team they played in the final week of season.  This time they'll be taking on the Edgewood Crusaders, who they beat last week by a score of 13-10.  If Lakeside is victorious they are eyeing a matchup vs. the #1 team in the state, Catholic Memorial, who boasts the 2 highest rated college prospects from the '24 class in Wisconsin. Lakeside's game on Friday night can be watched here live.

Good luck to Coach Keller and Vanderhoof as they try to help their teams advance!

On a side note, if you're interested in learning more about the WIAA's new electronic seeding system first used last year, reach out to Coach Vanderhoof. He will be able to share his thoughts and opinions on the topic (let's just say it's possible he likes referees more than the new system).

Moving to Volleyball, the Lady Lions of Brillion finished 3rd in conference on their way to a 20-10 mark in the regular season.  This earned them a #6 seed in the Division 3 playoffs and set up a match against Mishicot this past Tuesday.  After 2 close games, the Lady Lions put Mishicot away behind a strong 3rd set to earn the sweep. This victory set up a rubber match vs the Valders Vikings on Thursday at 7 PM (we believe the live stream will be found here on Youtube)

In Appleton, after suffering their first loss of the year the Vanderhoof twins responded by winning their next match against Saint Mark. In Set 2 of that match, Natalie served 10 in a row at one point! They then went on to take 2nd place in a recent tourney.  Well done girls!

In Watertown, Hannah wrapped up her grade school volleyball career with a 3rd place showing in their tournament.  She has now traded in her TSL jersey for a RiverCity jersey to start her club career.

In Menomonee Falls, Grace Vanderhoof put the finishing touches on a strong freshman Volleyball campaign by finishing as conference champs for freshman in the East Central Conference. Grace has now traded in her volleyball for a basketball as she is preparing for basketball tryouts for the KML team.

In cross country, we have news of another cousin joining the mix.  Natalie Vanderhoof's first race of the season was spectacular as she placed in the Top 20 while setting a PR in mid September.  To follow that up, she placed 4th in a 7th grade girls meet in early October, and earned a medal as the 3rd place finisher in a meet for Mount Olive on October 10th.  Way to go Natalie!

Coming off the contest at the "Clash of Cousins", Micah Vanderhoof was clearly feeling great.  Perhaps buoyed by reading his featured article, Micah has since shaved off an INCREDIBLE 1:06 from his time to now boast a PR of 18:17 which was achieved at the East Central Conference Championship last week.  KML placed 2nd in the event and the team is now preparing for Sectionals this weekend in Portage with the hopes of punching their ticket to the State meet. Side note to all the kids out there...if you're interested in posting a PR or sprinkling your team with some Post Pattern pixy dust, reach out to our staff and we'd be happy to feature you in one of our next issues!)

In Lake Mills, the Warriors are getting primed for a run to the state competition. After moving up to #2 in the coaches poll for D2, the team took the Capitol North title in convincing fashion with all 7 runners placing in the top 11.  Jack Simmons earned 2nd team all-conference honors and now is preparing for the team's Sectionals meet this weekend at UW-Parkside.

Best of luck to all our competitors in the post season...Go be GREAT!

(If you happen to have any live stream links of the Buboltz kids sporting events, please send them in to our staff and we'll be happy to post them here.  Nothing like cheering on family from the comfort of your own home!)
