Winter Sports Update

January 5th, 2023

The winter sports season has been in full swing, and the Buboltz kids are continuing to strike fear in the hearts of their competitors

We start in Brillion, as the Fighting Kellers of Trinity Lutheran (more commonly known as the Trinity Tigers) have continued their winning ways. This weekend, the team fought their way to a 19-12 victory to keep their record unblemished at 3-0.  Griffin continues to harass the opposing team's backcourt as he's quickly becoming known as a lock down defender.  Next week the team will have their league tournament and afterwards Griff will keep balance in the Keller house by joining the Brillion Lions for his "second season".

Delaney Keller has also been staying busy this winter. Coach Keller has wisely decided to get a ball in the young prodigy's hands as Laney will try her first pitching lesson on Sunday (we assume after church and well before the Packers game).

Our readers may recall that the Brillion area was blessed to open the Ariens Nordic Center.  This premier facility is the official training site for the US Olympic Biathalon team.  Pictured here in their yard are Griffin and Delaney Keller preparing for their future career as US Olympic Biathaloners.

In the Fox Valley, the Vanderhoof twins continue their winning ways.  On December 12th, Alyssa pulled down 4 boards, 2 assist, and a free throw while Natalie tallied a couple of steals as Mount Olive steamrolled St Peter 44-7. A few days later, the girls celebrated their birthday in syle as the Mustangs knocked off St Mark 35-25. Natalie had 4 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 points in this contest. In a game for the Junior Foxes on December 17th, Natalie pulled down 7 rebounds in a tourney game as her team took 3rd place in a tourney.

In their latest contest, the twins enjoyed a 44-13 victory that brought their season record to 9-0.

Nice job Natalie and Alyssa!

At the risk of sparking a cousin rivalry, the Post Pattern recently overheard some chatter and we wanted to pass it along:

Kettle Moraine Basketball Fan: Do you know what's more impressive than a 9-0 record?

Mount Olive Basketball Fan: What?

KML Fan: A 12-0 record!

(We might be getting our 2nd letter to the editor in the near future)

Grace Vanderhoof's JV squad at KML has been on a mission this season. On their way to a 12-0 start, the KML Chargers have been literally unstoppable.  On December 21st, the team shot out to a 52-3 HALFTIME lead (in a game that saw Grace contribute 3 points) on their way to a 75-21 victory.  Earlier this week, the team was tested after the holiday break as they escaped with a 52-50 win at Sussex Hamilton.

Way to go Grace!

As we detailed in our Winter Kickoff, Hannah Vanderhoof suffered a wrist injury early in the season that has curtailed her efforts a bit.  We knew that kid was tough as nails though, and sure enough she found her way back on the court this week.  In her first game back, Hannah scored 9 points to help lead her team to a dramatic OT win, 38-33.

WIth her team trailing by 2 and inbounding the ball underneath the opponents basket, Hannah delivered in the clutch to force overtime.  The video below captures the exciting moment.

The Post Pattern caught up with Hannah after the game and she had this to share:

"Coach called a timeout and told us our positions for the out of bounds play. The goal was to get the ball to the block. They passed the ball into me and I ducked under and shot it. I was really surprised that I made it and one of my teammates fell out of her chair because she was so excited!"

Congrats Hannah! We think this should end up on ESPN's top plays of the day!

This weekend in the Wisconsin Dells, the season officially began for the Gymfinity gymnastics team. After many months of training, Gwen Simmons kicked off her Level 9 campaign in strong fashion.  Gwen delivered solid performances, medaling in all four events, which resulted in a 2nd place finish in the all around competition. Gwen's score also punched her ticket for the state championship later this spring.

Nice job Gwen!
