Post Season Edition
Starting on the gridiron for our Post Season Spectacular, Junior Blake Vanderhoof and the third seeded Fox Valley Lutheran Foxes took on the Antigo Red Robins (yum). The Foxes weren't particularly gracious hosts as they jumped all over the visiting Red Robins 21-0 to start the game and enjoyed a 35-7 lead at the half. Blake helped close out the victory as the Foxes finished as 42-14 winners.
This week, in a Level 2 contest, the Foxes travel to Green Bay to take on Notre Dame, who were 56-7 winners in their matchup vs. Ashwaubenon. Good luck Blake!
As mentioned in our last edition, the Appleton Vanderhoof twins didn't plan on losing a match this season. Their tournament on the 14th didn't change things as Natalie and Alyssa's Mount Olive team didn't drop a single set as they were tournament champions. Congrats girls!
In Brillion, Ella Kuchenbecker and the Lady Lions took on Chilton in their final conference meet of the season. Brillion came in trailing Chilton by one game in the standings and a win would secure a 2nd place finish in conference. In dramatic fashion, the teams split the first four sets where each team won every game by 2 points. In the final set, the Lions squeaked out a 16-14 win. Ella had several important plays throughout the match.
The Lions carried that momentum on to the playoffs where they faced the Michicot Indians. In another 5 set thriller, the Lions again pulled out a 16-14 win in the final frame to advance to the next round. The Lions unfortunately dropped their next match to a very strong Howards Grove team.
Ella closed her junior campaign with an impressive 134 kills (1.4 / game), 117 service points (31 aces), 10 blocks, and 85 digs.
In Watertown, Hannah Vanderhoof's VB career for TSL came to an end in their final tournament of the season. Hannah will continue her VB career on the club circuit and we'll also be looking forward to Hannah resuming her basketball career this winter. Way to go Hannah!
The Lakeside Lutheran Warriors Cross Country team keeps rolling. After a dominating performance at the conference championships, the team headed to Monroe for the Sectional championship. The boys punched their ticket to state in convincing fashion and will enter next week's race as the number #1 ranked team at the Division 2 Championship. The race will likely be a tight contest with Lakeside, West Salem, Kiel, and Shorewood all having a strong chance to win the title. Join us at The Ridges golf course in Wisconsin Rapids on 10/28 to find out who takes home the trophy!
Most times we celebrate athletes success on the field. Today, the Post Pattern wants to recognize something off it. As mentioned last edition, Jack has been battling an illness most of this XC season. While he ran at the conference meet, Jack knew he wasn't at the top of his game. In the week leading up to Sectionals, he approached Coach and offered his spot in the lineup to another teammate in order to make the team stronger. For his selfless action, the Post Pattern says "Well done Jack!".
In our last edition, we noted the grueling training regimen a college XC runner undertakes. That training is clearly paying off for Micah Vanderhoof as he notched another PR (seriously, is there a week this kid DOESN'T set a new record?) at a recent meet in La Crosse. Micah carved nearly a minute out of his previous record. Pictured below is Micah with his father, sister, and an actor auditioning for the role of Shaggy in the upcoming Scooby Doo movie.
