Fall Sports Wrap-up
In our final article of the fall season, we start things with the Fox Valley Lutheran Foxes. FVL wrapped up their season by facing a tough Notre Dame squad in a Level 2 matchup. Notre Dame was stout in the trenches and had quick running backs to end the Foxes season. Congrats to Blake on a solid season!
Staying on the gridiron, while we normally focus this section on the great-grand kids, when you happen to lead your team to the third round of the playoffs we can make an exception to include you. Coach Vanderhoof helped lead the Lakeside Lutheran team to an "upset" over the #1 seeded Platteville Hillmen 28-7 in Level 2. The following week they took on a Catholic Memorial team that has 2 players who will be playing at Penn State next year. Lakeside kept it close the entire game before falling 20-7.
One final note in football...the Post Pattern would like to extend our congratulations to Coach Neil Seering and the Luxemburg Casco Spartans for making it to Madison and competing at Camp Randall for the Division 4 Title. Seering was a captain on the 1996 Brillion Lions team. The Post Pattern's sports writer was in attendance for the title game to cheer on Coach Seering and his team.
As detailed here all season long, the Appleton Vanderhoof twins have had a season to remember in volleyball. With a stellar record, they've enjoyed a very successful season. The season came to an exciting conclusion as they recently competed in the Wisconsin state grade school meet in late October. The girls went 5-1 in pool play and advanced to the chamionship game. While falling a little short, they wrapped their hands around the State Runner Up trophy!
Congratulations to Natalie and Alyssa on an absolutely terrific season!!!
We don't really have any updates for Ella this week, but it's impossible not to love the smiling faces of Team Keller so we kept this one around to boost our numbers.
As Ella debates her next activity, we look forward to seeing her back on a court / field soon!
While Hannah wrapped up her grade school VB career, she's moved on to the club season. Now playing for the River City Blue 14 team, Hannah is working hard and developing her skills. If you'd like to support her team, they are doing a fund raiser through November 27th. Reach out to Emily or Justin for more details.
When your team takes 2nd at state and returns most of your roster, expectations are guaranteed to be high. The Lakeside Lutheran Warriors boys XC team smashed through those expectations and took home the Wisconsin D2 championship at The Ridges golf course in Wisconsin Rapids. While Jack's nagging illness kept him from competing that day, the data checkers at the Post Pattern believe he is now the first Buboltz to win a state championship at the high school level.
We are also happy to report that Jack was able to return to competition a few weeks after the state meet and he joined his team for the Nike XC Regionals event in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. There, Jack competed against almost 2k other runners and the Lakeside team placed 22nd out of 228 teams. In his first race in over a month, Jack was near his PR.
Congrats Jack on the state championship!
Staying in XC, Micah Vanderhoof closed out his first collegiate season of competition in a very typical Micah fashion...by setting a PR. Micah competed at the UMAC championship where the MLC Knights took 2nd place in the competition. Micah's time put him at about a 6:40 mile pace (over about 5 miles).
Congrats a successful freshman campaign Micah!
Last but certainly not least, we close out our sports editorial with one of our younger athletes. Griffin Keller assisted Coach Keller on this sidelines this year as a waterboy for the Brillion Lions. We're positive Griffin will know that playbook better than anyone else in Brillion before long!
Griffin also recently upgraded his karate belt in October as he continues to move up the ranks. We are pretty sure Griffin has now set a record for most accomplished Karate expert in Buboltz history.
Way to go Griff!
